Specialist tree services and vegetation management alongside highways

Bathed in natural beauty, the roads and highways around County Durham and the North East England meander through picturesque landscapes containing an abundance of trees, vegetation, woodlands and forests. But what happens when those trees become a cause for concern?

When do we carry out tree work alongside highways?

To manage health conditions of trees we carry out tree pruning to remove dead, diseased or damaged wood so that trees can grow strong and healthy.

Sometimes tree branches can obstruct a public right of way, footpath, entrance to property or open space with public access and public highways.

Overgrown trees may block sight lines on roads and constitute a danger,  for example at road junctions, bends and entrances.  They may also obscure road signage and traffic signals.

Tree roots can cause damage to footpaths and specialist solution is required to remedy the situation without weakening the tree or causing it to die over time.  Our arboricultural consultants can advise on the best solution so the tree's health and structure are not damaged.

If a tree is a hazard to public safety and all other options have been explored it may be necessary to fell the tree.  Damaged or diseased trees, otherwise known as dangerous trees, can easily be uprooted in high winds causing obstruction or blocking a public footpath or highway.

Ultimately we carry out tree removal to keep highways safe.  Wherever possible felled trees will be left to form valuable wildlife habitats - more on this later!
